Today is the day! 🚀📚
I am pleased to announce that today I am presenting my book "Everything I Can Imagine: The Algorithm of Understanding," a work published in three parts and available on Amazon, in both paperback and ebook formats. This work, the fruit of years of reflection, explores the most intimate mechanisms of understanding, ultimately trying to answer the question: Can we build machines that imitate human comprehension?
📍 First part: I explore the hidden gears that determine how we understand the world, introducing practical tools such as personal understanding maps and investigating the fascinating possibility of developing a universal algorithm that allows us to comprehend any subject with greater depth. https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0FGJXR9NV
📍 Second part: An interdisciplinary journey that explores the profound connections between language, art, science, and philosophy, with a global perspective that offers a deeper and more complete understanding of the world and ourselves. https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0FGJVKGPM
📍 Third part: Algorithms and complex problem-solving, culminating with a reflection on the hottest frontier of knowledge: Can artificial intelligence imitate human understanding? https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0FGJQDCYN
Why this book, and why now?
I am passionate about understanding. The search for understanding is something that, to a greater or lesser degree, all human beings share. We ask ourselves about everyday facts like "why is the sky blue?", as well as deeper aspects like "why does evil exist in the world?" This innate curiosity, far from being trivial, has been one of the key factors in the progress of civilization, especially during the last few centuries.
We are witnessing the dawn of a society where, ironically, an academic degree is not as determinant as it used to be, and where learning and education are more important than ever. The new capitalism is based on an intangible commodity: information. Intellectual capital has become, in just a few decades, our most valuable asset, and in the coming years, an intense revolution triggered by the accelerated advances in artificial intelligence will flourish. To what extent can this technology help us understand the world? Here we will try to answer this question.
It is true that the information age, enabled by the digital revolution, has profoundly transformed the structure of society. We are fortunate to have access to a vast ocean of knowledge and resources, thanks to the democratization of communications, computers, and the internet. Even so, the accumulation of information, by itself, does not satisfy our curiosity; we live overwhelmed by an avalanche of news and knowledge in a hyperconnected world, but we continue to experience a profound lack of understanding. Information does not guarantee understanding, and sometimes it even hinders it.
It is time to learn to better digest the information in this complex world, and to cultivate understanding as a key, transferable, and interdisciplinary asset. I deeply believe in our capacity to educate ourselves, taking personal leadership of this process (was it ever any other way?). For all these reasons, this book intends to lead us into a new stage: the era of understanding. And not because I say so, but because the reader must feel that need in their core. In this book, I invite you to explore in depth the concept of understanding. Throughout this adventure, we will see how knowledge, by itself, does not imply comprehension, but rather that comprehension lives in its own independent dimension, although intrinsically intertwined with knowledge; and, perhaps more importantly, its essential features do not depend on the specific area of knowledge in which we specialize. Our journey will be a truly multidisciplinary one, with examples from fields as diverse as science, art, philosophy, or business. Learning to learn, improving your critical thinking, or your ability to solve problems are some of the skills that reading this book can help you develop.
